Opening up about incontinence (published in the KitsapSun July 15, 2016)

When opening up a discussion about female incontinence, Kara Bermensolo gets to the heart of the issue.

"For me, it started at age 12," says Bermensolo, a 27-year-old physical therapist at Kitsap Physical Therapy.

A competitive gymnast, Bermensolo struggled with the problem through her teen years, resorting to pads to combat the wetting that came with hard landings in the high-impact sport.

She now specializes in treating female patients who have incontinence and other problems as a result of pelvic floor dysfunction. She's working to dispel the notions many women have regarding the problem — using herself as an example. Having some leakage and wetting your pants can happen to anyone, regardless of your age or whether you've had children.
