Next STEP is integrated with physical therapy to improve strength, mobility and balance. Together with the referring doctor, Kitsap Physical Therapy’s mission is for patients to decrease their dependency on medicine and adopt exercise as a lifestyle. The Next STEP staff includes exercise physiologists, kinesiologists and physical therapist assistants who are experts in movement, physical dysfunction and disease.

Parkinson’s Movement Group (LSVT BIG)
LSVT BIG is a research-based exercise program designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.

What to expect during LSVT BIGTM therapy:
Individuals with Parkinson’s disease often experience tremors, slowed movement, and other symptoms. During LSVT BIGTM sessions, a physical therapist certified in this method leads patients through highly intensive, repetitive, whole-body, large-motion exercises that “retrain” the brain to make bigger movements. Therapy includes:

  • 16 individual sessions (4 sessions per week for 4 weeks)
  • assigned daily homework

Parkinson’s disease can take away the ability to move the way you want, research shows LSVT BIGTM therapy results in:

  • Faster walking with bigger steps
  • Improved balance
  • Increased trunk rotation

Exercise has proven to be powerful “medicine” for Parkinson’s patients. Exercise minimizes symptoms and improves motor function. With improved movement and confidence, patients notice more ease with walking, getting up, moving and performing daily activities. The LSVT BIGTM program can help patients stay active and improve their quality of life!
