Next STEP is integrated with physical therapy to improve strength, mobility and balance. Together with the referring doctor, Kitsap Physical Therapy’s mission is for patients to decrease their dependency on medicine and adopt exercise as a lifestyle. After a comprehensive screening by a physical therapist, patients are able to choose their Next STEP. The Next STEP staff includes exercise physiologists, kinesiologists and physical therapist assistants who are experts in movement, physical dysfunction and disease.

Senior Fitness
A well-rounded class geared for our seniors, focusing on cardio respiratory endurance, strength, balance, flexibility and cognitive training. These classes keep our participants independently functioning and are helpful in preventing disease and falls!

Cardiac Conditioning
The cardiac conditioning program is for participants that are returning to exercise with a heart condition. It provides a supervised environment to safely increase activity and exercise. Blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels are monitored.

Pilates for Spinal Rehabilitation and Osteoporosis
A program designed for the special needs of patients with low back problems. It provides a safe and effective way to eliminate or reduce low back pain, while gaining the benefits of core strength, flexibility and balance.

Strength After Cancer
“Start low, progress slow, and let symptoms be your guide.”
Strength after Cancer is an exercise protocol specific to survivors to ease the transition into a consistent exercise routine, with an emphasis on weight-bearing, resistive exercises and correct posture/body mechanics. Participants will meet 1 time every 2 weeks for 6-8 sessions, focusing on intensity, frequency and duration under the guidelines of “start low, progress slow, and let symptoms be your guide.” Exercises will focus on functional movements that are relevant to the participants’ goals, where success is ultimately measured by the return to satisfying and independent activities.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP)
The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is a low impact physical activity program proven to reduce pain and decrease stiffness. The sessions include gentle range-of-motion exercises that are suitable for every fitness level and ability. Led by a trained program leader , these enjoyable and motivational classes may be taken either standing or sitting in a chair.

Parkinson’s Movement Group (LSVT BIG)
LSVT BIG is a research-based exercise program designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.

What to expect during LSVT BIGTM therapy:
Individuals with Parkinson’s disease often experience tremors, slowed movement, and other symptoms. During LSVT BIGTM sessions, a physical therapist certified in this method leads patients through highly intensive, repetitive, whole-body, large-motion exercises that “retrain” the brain to make bigger movements. Therapy includes:
· 16 individual sessions (4 sessions per week for 4 weeks)
· assigned daily homework

Parkinson’s disease can take away the ability to move the way you want, research shows LSVT BIGTM therapy results in : · Faster walking with bigger steps
· Improved balance
· Increased trunk rotation
Exercise has proven to be powerful “medicine” for Parkinson’s patients. Exercise minimizes symptoms and improves motor function. With improved movement and confidence, patients notice more ease with walking, getting up, moving and performing daily activities. The LSVT BIGTM program can help patients stay active and improve their quality of life!

Silver Sneakers
Silver Sneakers Classic
The nation’s leading fitness program for older adults. Have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

Silver Sneakers Yoga
This class offers exercises to improve joint range of motion, core strength, posture and breathing efficiency while promoting stress reduction and a sense of well-being.
