Driving Adults with stable vision impairments benefit from the unique occupational therapy expertise in driving assessment. Generalist occupational therapists can evaluate areas such as visual perception, and head and upper-body range of motion that impact the ability to safely drive a car. Additional, more specialized evaluation and training can be done by occupational therapists with more advanced expertise to address all aspects of driving, including simulated or on-the-road driving evaluation, training, and adaptations to enable the person to drive safely, or interventions on how to maintain community mobility if resumption of driving is not a realistic goal. Occupational therapists also provide evaluation and training in the use of prescribed bioptic lenses for driving with central field deficit.
